Journeying
What is Journeying?
Shamanic Journeying is a spiritual practice that consists of altering consciousness through non-drug techniques like repetitive drumming or rattling. In this slightly altered consciousness, your imagination gets ignited, and your spiritual senses come alive. During journeys, you tap into your intuition and wisdom and break free of linear time. It is a bit like dreaming while awake and is an ancient form of active imagination.
Why Journey?
We journey to connect to our true selves, nature, community and Spirit - a longing people have had since the beginning of time. The practice assumes that everything is infused with Spirit and that we live in an interconnected world where everything is interdependent on every life-form. That means whatever we send out into the world impacts all of life, including our words, actions, feelings and thoughts. What we send out can be toxic or healthy. Part of the spiritual journey is to become more healthy so that our presence can impact and change the world for the better. Journeying, like other spiritual practices, helps us do that.
We journey to seek guidance and discernment, connect with our healthy ancestors, heal intergenerational traumas, commune with the spirits of nature, hear from the land, restore our souls, regain a sense of healthy personal power, remove blocks in our energy fields, create boundaries, learn from past lives, and more. When I journey with or for you, any messages about the future are not predictions, rather guidance for you to consider. Messages are not focused on how people in your life should change; they are for you and how you can change. You always choose how to interpret the messages and how they best fit your life situation.
Is it OK for white folks to do?
Michael Harner, an academic and anthropologist, researched and developed the principles of Core Shamanism. They are not bound to any specific cultural group or perspective, and therefore the use of them is not cultural appropriation. Since the West overwhelmingly lost its shamanic knowledge centuries ago due to religious oppression, the practice is intended for Westerners to reacquire access to their rightful spiritual heritage. I love what Dra. Rocio Rosales Meza says: "The neocolonizer has trained us to reject our own ancestral technologies by seeing them as new age... Tapping into higher realms and consciousness is not new age... Trusting in the unseen is an Indigenous way of knowing." It's our birthright!
When you work with me, we will use core shamanic practices, not ones laced with any cultural perspectives. I don't call myself a shaman out of respect to indigenous shamans. I'm a shamanic practitioner, and I'd love to support you in your own practice.

Learn to Journey
Over three online sessions, I offer teaching, practice, conversation, and Q&A to help you learn:
Ongoing Support
If you want to deepen your practice, I can support you in any way that makes sense. That may include journeying together. You and I meet by Zoom. You bring an intention, and we both journey at the same time for 15-30 minutes. I can guide you or we can do it in silence simultaneously. Then for 30 minutes, we share what came up and work with interpretation and integration.
I Journey for You
You email me with a question or intention*, and I do a journey for you. It is like an intuitive reading. I invite my helping spirits and yours to support you and offer guidance. By email, I share the transcript of the journey and a link to schedule a 30 minute session by Zoom for interpretation and integration, and to check for resonance with you.
*Questions are best if they begin with what, why, how.

"Kelly, I truly cannot tell you how much more supported and connected I am feeling after just a short time journeying and with the information and guidance you've shared. I finally feel like I have a practice to receive messages and connect with guides, and it makes such a difference as I get ready to navigate major changes in my life. I also so appreciate you being willing to share experiences of your journeys and how you engage with core shamanic practices to navigate changes in your life." - L.R.

"After having personally practiced shamanism, shamanic healing, and shamanic journeying for more than half a century, I can say that there is nothing I have encountered in reports of the spiritual experiences of saints, prophets, psychedelic drug experimenters, near death survivors, avatars and other mystics that is not commonly experienced when following classic journey methods using a drum." —Michael Harner
